Opportunity Description

Title of Research Opportunity: Examination of Noisy Nervous System Biosignals to Understand Humans as a Cybernetic System The U.S. Army Research Laboratory is seeking a Pre-Doctoral or Post-Doctoral Associate to aide in research examining high-dimensional noisy biosignals in a human model. In order to meet ARL's Essential Research Area to develop Human-Agent Teams, it is necessary to understand the dynamic interplay between various levels of the human nervous system, including how humans integrate sensory information and create/coordinate/maintain movement. Future requirements anticipate that biosignals originating from the human will also need to be processed and understood by future virtual agents. None of these requirements can be met without effective processing and understanding of human-originating biosignals and the effective interplay between various nervous sub-systems of the human nervous system. The incumbent will have published experience examining complex, multidimensional biosignals (e.g. EEG, MEG, grid EMG, etc) using accepted signal processing pipelines and have an interest in source localization and connectivity analyses. It is expected that the incumbent will have advanced skills using Matlab, Python and/or R to perform analyses. The current project utilizes EEG and single motor unit studies to understand how perturbations alter cortical control of movement. Depending on the background and interest of the incumbent, future work will pursue interests further down the motor or cognitive domains (or both). It is expected that the incumbent will work with a team of researchers to author of peer review manuscripts and lead in the publication of future manuscripts.
