Title of Research Opportunity: Agents Leveraging Learning for Intelligent Engagement with Soldiers (A.L.L.I.E.S.) The primary objective of ALLIES project is to develop, test, and validate techniques for training artificial intelligence (AI) agents to work flexibly and efficiently alongside other AI agents and humans/Soldiers to accomplish tasks, goals, and the overall mission in dynamic multi-domain operations (MDO). Specifically, this project focuses on utilizing state-of-the-art (sota) multi-agent reinforcement learning (MARL) algorithms combined with Human-in-the-Loop (HitL) approaches to find a methodology for training AI agents to rapidly and flexibly adapt to, or learn from partners (human or agent) actions to complete tasks in novel situations and environments. ORAU works with agencies such as the U.S. Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Research Associateship Program (RAP) allow Postdoctoral Fellows, Journeyman Fellows (undergraduate and graduates students and recent graduates), Senior Researchers, and Summer Faculty engage in research initiatives of their own choice, that are compatible with the interests of the government and will potentially contribute to the general effort of the ARL. We work with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to place recent graduates in full-time and part-time jobs in the Office of Research and Development at EPA under the National Student Services Contract. ORAU also works with Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.
